Underfloor Heating Experts
Conventional heating solutions such as radiators are now a thing of the past. They are outdated and are not efficient at providing adequate, even heat throughout an entire room, home or commercial premises. This ensures that any difficult-to-reach places or any cold spots are eradicated. Conventional heating solutions such as radiators only radiate heat from one location in the room, which is not efficient. Underfloor heating will evenly distribute the heat which will rise from the floor, leaving the floor warm to touch. As the heat rises from the floor, the room will become evenly heated. Underfloor heating is around 25% more efficient than radiators due to the lower flow temperatures required and the larger area covered. Underfloor heating is compatible with both gas and electricity sources, as well as renewable energy sources such as ground and air source heat pumps. Underfloor heating also allows for less clutter in the home, as there will be no need for numerous radiators. This will allow for a more minimalist look and cleaner designs, whilst giving you more space to use.
Our Underfloor Heating Process
When carrying our your underfloor heating project, we follow a very specific process to ensure you receive a high-quality, reliable solution that will stand the test of time and keep your home or business heated for many many years to come. First, we will tape up any joints ready to lay the damp course membrane. This is used to prevent dampness from occurring underneath a concrete floor which will stop it from gaining moisture. Once the damp course membrane has been laid, we will then install edging strips. The edge strip is made from foam and allows the screed floor to expand and contract with the underfloor heating system. We will then lay the clip rails down which will house the underfloor heating pipes. Once the clip rails have been installed we will then run in the pipes, ensuring all space is covered. Once the pipes have been run in, we will then test the pumping system to ensure everything is working correctly. We also provide yearly servicing to your underfloor heating system to ensure we proactively monitor it and pick up on any issues that may occur.

Our Services
Portsmouth Underfloor Heating provide a comprehensive underfloor heating service and can manage your whole project from start to finish. Take a look below at some of the services we offer to our customers.

Hydronic Underfloor Heating
Warm Water Underfloor Heating works by pumping water into underfloor pipe circuits which are heated by your primary heat source. Warm water underfloor heating is recommended for new-builds or extensions as it is a lot easier to install compared to a renovation. Warm water systems are more expensive to install but this is offset due to the lower running costs compared to electrical systems. Installation time is also longer due to the added extras needed to complete a warm water underfloor heating project.

Electric Underfloor Heating
Electric Underfloor Heating works by heating electrical wires or electrical mats which are installed on top of an existing floor and connected to the mains supply. Electrical underfloor heating is recommended for renovation projects or single rooms as it is a lot easier to install on an existing floor or surface. Electrical water systems are cheaper to install but there are higher running costs associated with electrical systems due to tariff prices. Installation time is massively reduced, with some projects completed in just a few hours.

Underfloor Heating Servicing
Both warm-water and electrical underfloor heating are largely maintenance-free, however regular servicing from a qualified professional is highly recommended. It’s much better to ensure a system is regularly maintained so that you can be confident it will continue to run smoothly for years to come. Servicing your system allows engineers to proactively spot any signs of failure in the heating system and offer advice to maximise its efficiency. If you react to an issue with your heating system, you could be in for a very expensive bill!
